A tasty ‘Feastival’ for Tetbury

September 22nd, 2011

Over the years, The Angel Bakery has sold its cupcakes at many food festivals including large events such as the Cheltenham and the Bath food festivals. But there is one little festival that has a place in our heart and that is the Tetbury Food and Drink Festival.

Five years ago a very small group of enthusiastic, hard working (and unstoppable) ‘Tetbury-ites’ decided to create a local food festival. With little funding they managed to create an event that has gone from strength to strength, encompassing everything that is great about British food.

The week long festival takes in many aspects of food and food production. You can get an insight in to organic farming by taking a tour of the Duchy Home Farm or learn how to make cheese under the guidance of Melissa Raven of Woefuldane Dairy.

Various hotels and restaurants will also be putting on their own special menus for the event and officionados of the great British banger might be interested to know that The Close Hotel will be hosting the annual Gloucester Old Spot Sausage Appreciation Society Dinner – yumm!!

The week of feastivities culminates on the Sunday with a Producers Market where you will find over 40 local businesses selling their tasty products. During the day there will be demonstrations from celebrated chefs, writers and bakers including Xanthe Clay, Tom Herbert and others, including sausage making, butchery and bread making to name a few.

You’ll also find us there with our range of seasonal cupcakes, bakes and tarts. And we will be giving you the chance to bag yourself a FREE cupcake. Keep an eye on our cupcake link to find out how …..

Cupcakes, Shipton Mill revelry and more cupcakes!

July 5th, 2010

Well, the last few weeks have gone by in a blur. Firstly we had the Cheltenham Food and Drink Festival to attend in the Montpellier Gardens towards the end of June and we had a very successful 3 days coming away feeling tired but very happy. So many people remembered us from the Cheltenham festival we attended in 2009 and we had great feedback about our cute little cupcakes.

On our return to cupcake headquarters there was no time to sit back and relax as we ploughed on with more baking for our stall at Cirencester Farmers Market, lots more wedding cupcakes and a sprinkling of summer party cupcakes for good measure.

We were allowed a little time off for good behaviour though and high tailed it to the party at Shipton Mill to let our hair down. Live music, good food and a stunning location all made for a fantastic night.  Sadly for the men present, the belly dancer didn’t make an appearance at this year’s bash, but the group of african drummers got everyone on their feet for a bit of tribal dancing and the SKA band ensured everyone strutted their stuff on the dancefloor.

For those who survived the late night revelry there was talk of a hearty breakfast on offer at dawn, but with early morning baking duties beckoning, it was time to bid adieu for a bit of shut-eye!

Our next cupcake baking marathon was for Bath Food Festival which took place in the Royal Victoria Park.  The setting couldn’t have been more perfect with stunning weather and the beautiful and imposing Royal Crescent just a stones throw away.  With the chance to meet lots of new customers came the opportunity to showcase a new flavour and we plumped for the humble gooseberry as our little star.

Here at The Angel Bakery we’re renowned for simple, sophisticated cupcakes and we like nothing more than to use fresh seasonal fruits and freshly made fruit coulis to adorn our creations.

And with the British gooseberry season underway it seemed a shame not to make more of this fantastic fruit and so our Gooseberry & Elderflower cupcake was born.

Proving to be a big hit over the festival weekend, especially for those who don’t have such a sweet tooth, this cupcake flavour will definitely be on the Angel Bakery menu whilst gooseberries remain in season.

We are now knuckling down to do more baking for the farmers markets, more weddings and lots more parties but you can catch us on our stall at Cirencester Farmers Market on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month and we will also be at the Tetbury Food and Drink Festival on Sunday 26th September, 2010  See you there!

It’s Bath time and FREE cupcakes!

July 1st, 2010

If you missed out on a FREE cupcake from The Angel Bakery at Cheltenham Food Festival you will get another opportunity this coming weekend at the Bath Food and Drink Festival, Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th July 2010.

Set in Royal Victoria Park directly in front of the famous Royal Crescent, you couldn’t ask for a more quintessential English setting for this fabulous festival.  Over the two days Bath’s very own food festival will be offering up an amazing array of  speciality food and drink producers as well as live music from local bands.

Antonio Carluccio the much loved and respected Italian cookery writer will be cooking up a storm of genuine regional Italian food that will inspire your taste-buds, regarded as the Godfather of Italian gastronomy this is an experience not to be missed! Throughout each day of the festival leading local chefs will be creating delicious dishes from regional ingredients which will inspire you.

And of course we’ll be there with our range of freshly baked cupcakes.  Some of our regular cupcake favourites will there as well as some new flavours created especially for the festival.

Angels and Bollywood Cupcakes

June 21st, 2010

With Cheltenham Food Festival now behind us it is time to take a breather and then crack on with more baking. Thank you to everyone who came up to the stand over the 3 days and we are flattered by all your wonderful comments about our cakes – thank you.

This was the 2nd year that we had attended the event and we were astounded back then at the response to our cupcakes and this year was no exception with many people remembering us from last year and making a beeline for our stand.

When we attended the Food Festival back in 2009 we created a display of cupcakes just for a bit of fun and the amount of photos and videos taken of it was staggering. So we thought we would do something similar this year and put our thinking caps on to decide what we could do.

Here at The Angel Bakery we are well known for our simple, sophisticated designs but on this occasion we decided to go all out for a bit of a wow factor and so we created a tower of ‘Bollywood’ cupcakes.

Shrinking violets these cakes definitely were not! Bold, brash and bling was the order of the day and it certainly had the desired effect with hundreds of photos taken over the duration of the festival and it attracted a lot of attention.

As well as our colourful creation on display we had our signature cupcake range on sale for those in ineed of a cake pick- me- up during the day.

We also launched a few new flavours at the festival including French Apricot, Chocolate Mint and fresh Raspberry and our ‘Whisper Campaign’ gained a lot of new followers. Well done to all those brave cupcake fans who put aside their inhibitions and managed to bag themselves a FREE cupcake in the process.

We met a lot of lovely fans and lots of new fans and at one point we were visited by a rather cute Cupcake Angel who judging by this photo was pondering which cupcake was going to take her fancy.

Thank you to everyone for your support especially the cupcake angels working behind the scenes (you know who you are) who made this possible.

You can catch us at Cirencester Farmers Market on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month.  Check out our events page to see where we will be next.
